The Syrian novelist Khalil Al-Raz wrote his new novel, “The Russian Neighborhood” (Defaf and Difference Publications 2019), as a virtual neighborhood located in a suburb of Damascus. We were introduced to some of its characters in his previous novel, “Al-Badal”. The events of the novelist made him a new novelist in the atmosphere of a new novel and other films in America by William Faulkner. His works were inspired by the place of his birth, the southern state of Mississippi, where the events of his novels took place in this limited and well-known place for details and landmarks.
